Hi! I hope you enjoy this book review on Boy Overboard!
Author- Morris Gleitzman
Genre -Fiction
Theme- Have faith in yourself l will explain why later in the post
Target audience- 10+ will explain why later in the post
I chose have faith in yourself as the theme because in Boy Overboard they got in the wrong ship to their parents and they could not trust many people at all. Read on to find out what happens next!
I chose 10+ for the target audience because the event that happens in Boy Overboard is pretty hard to understand. Also because there are words that are hard to understand.
Boy Overboard is about Jamal and Bibi (the main characters ) first living in Afghanistan. Afghanistan's government is extremely strict about a lot of things like illegal schools, girls outside of there house without a parent and anyone playing soccer. Their Dad drives a taxi with petrol not for taxis (but it works anyway) and the government blows up there house and have to go somewhere else and set off to Australia. While trying to get to there ship they miss there ship and have on a different ship. On board ship they have to be careful about who they trust.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars ⛦ because sometimes it got a little bit boring at times and Moris Gleitzman (the author) describe the scene that well. Another reason is that l think that we did not get to know the characters (Jamal and BiBi) that well in the books.
The question of the blog is where would you travel and why? I chose this question because they (Jamal and BiBi) started in Afghanistan and (tried) to end up in Australia. I would go to Milan in Italy because they have really nice food and fashion. If you are really into fashion too go check out my review on The Polka Dot Shop.
About the author Moris Gleitzman is and Australian author who has written a lot of other books including Girl Underground (which l will also probably review because it goes with Boy Overboard), the Once series and so many more. He has also collaborated with Paul Jennings.
I hope you enjoyed this book review on Boy Overboard. Love-bookworm blog 😙.
P.S sorry l have not posted in almost two months. I will try and post two times a week again.

ReplyDeleteHi! I have not been able to comment because of a technical issue. Love- Bookworm blog
DeleteYay am so glad you're back with a new blog post! I guess people fleeing their countries go wherever they think will be safe and feel they have a chance of being able to stay. The young children must have been scared not to be with their parents and to leave their homes. Why do you think people are scared of refugees?
ReplyDeleteHi! I think people are scared of refugees because they are not used to what they look like and their culture. Love- Bookworm blog
DeleteHi Bookworm, missed reading your blogs-you must be busy!
ReplyDeleteI liked your critique about the author. It makes you think about what you would or would not do if you were to write a story too.
It would be sad and scary to be forced to leave your home and to flee to a country where you have to start over and not know what to expect. Theme is right, have faith in yourself that you can deal with whatever comes your way. I think there's also ideas around resilience, adaptability and being resourceful. Like knowing how to deal with new or unexpected things and problem solving. Like asking yourself-what can I do to make things easier, who, what and how can I get through this, what strategies and tools have I got to deal with this new situation? What do I know, what do I need to find out, who can I ask to solve this problem? It's a bit like a game!
Reading stories whether fiction or non fiction, about what characters go through and their adventures can help fill up your toolkit and ideas for how to manage your own adventures too 😊
Looking forward to your next blog. Will check next week but know your busy so no worries if it takes you longer for the next post xx
Hi! Thank you for saying you liked my critique. It definitely would scary and frightening to have to leave your country. Love- Bookworm blog 😜

DeleteHey Bookworm Blog!
ReplyDeleteI finally found a sliver of time to post a comment on your blog. I enjoyed your reviews of books earlier in the year, and love that you are expanding into some Australian authors. Thoroughly impressed with the detail and thought you have put into each book and therefore review.
I agree that Morris Gleitzman can be a bit wordy and slow at times, but I think some of it is to represent the length of time and how everyday life can be mundane and that some days there isn't any action or excitement.
I think it can also be hard to understand every bit of book that contain experiences that we, ourselves, have never been through. But it can allow us to feel empathy towards others, and know that if someone out there had to do something like this, that we can learn and find the strength to take on our own challenges.
I feel like my answer to where I would travel won't surprise you at all. Japan = food = *(^o^)*. Also just the general environment and cultural experience. Also it's super pretty there.
I'm curious over which book you'll write a review on next! Looking forward to it! (^_^)
Hi! I am happy that you have found a sliver of time to comment and for your feed back. I am happy you agree with me about Moris Gleitzman. I definitely agree that even if we haven't been through it we will have still have empathy for them. I am NOT surprised what so ever that your place was Japan. It is really pretty.
