I like this book because it gives an insight into what life was like in the mid 1800's. This era presented different realities compared to now for women including financial security, social classes, careers and relationships. This book is very entertaining because it takes you along on an emotional rollercoaster throughout this fictional but lifelike story. (5 stars).
I highly recommend Little Women, which is suitable for older children through to adults. You need to stay focused to pick up the themes of the book, which are complicated because this is written and set in an historical context and there are several characters to follow. It's an extremely enjoyable, timeless classic. If you like stories by Jane Austen then it is likely you will enjoy this book.

This is the first book review in ages! I'm sorry about that. If you would like, please give me feedback about the new format. I probably won't be like this all the time.

Little Women is one of my most favorite books from my childhood. I think I was in 4th grade when I read it, maybe 5th. I own so many different copies, and read them over and over. I sometimes wonder if the book would feel the same now as it did then, one of the reasons I have not re-read it as an adult.
ReplyDeleteI love Little Women so much too! I recently re-read it, it gave a sense of home and was really comforting since Covid19. I also saw the new movie for Little Women before Lockdown and it was amazing!
DeleteI have not seen the new movie; I love the one from 1995 with Christian bale as Laurie and I just don't think I could ever see someone else play him!
DeleteTimothée Chalamet did a pretty good job as Laurie. Florence Pugh did a great job as Amy and even made me warm up to her which, is an amzing job considering I used to dislike her a lot.
DeleteI have loved this book for a long time. When I was a child I read it over and over. I have also seen almost all the movies made from it. I recently reread it and found even more to enjoy from an adult viewpoint.
ReplyDeleteI recently reread it too! I reread it twice this year, before I saw the new movie and after in Lockdown because I got bored. I think when you read it the first time you're learning the characters then when you get older you understand the characters better and you connect with them on a more personal level. This is the reason I always reread books!
DeleteLittle Women is one of the best. It's always a nice one to go back too.
